I have a "73" Catalina 27. A friend and I are installing a holding tank for the head in the V birth. We bought a 20gal. Ronco tank and cut the hole. Well, cold feet come to mind when entering into where to put what? Has anyone done this and what did you use? Where did you put it? Did you install a Y valve and a hand pump for overboarding? Do you have any diagrams to share? Help us. Please! I need to get my friends tools out of my boat so I can enjoy the great weather!

HOLDING TANK

I put in a 20 gal tank in the bow 2 years ago. I had to cut out most of the storage shelf under the V-Berth in order to get it in. I made a plywood "bed" shaped to the bottom of the tank, cut @ 10 3" holes in the "bed", placed it in the bottom of the hull. I fed a deck clean out and ran the hose underneath the "bed". Then I used non-expanding foam to fill in under the bed. This secured and glued the "bed". I then placed the tank on top of the "bed" and then using the same non-expanding foam, filled in the sides, securing the tank in place. Two fresh air vents (port vent out stbd, etc.). I put an electric macerator and new thru-hull under V-Berth on starboard with an on-off switch in same locationl. I put a 6" deck plate on wall between head and V-Berth -- I can unscrew it and reach through to open thru-hull and turn on switch. This way I don't have to clean off the top of the V-Berth to get to the discharge end. Y-Valve behind head. davidtrace@shaw.ca
