I am going to be making my first alterations to my new 240. I would like to install a swingarm mount just inside the companionway so that my GPS/FishFinder unit can swing into the companion way opening under sail. I am thinking that to add strength I would install the mount to a piece of wood that is attached to the bulkhead wall. I plan to use adhesive on the wood, but I want to also install some type of screws or bolts to add strenght to the mount. Simple wood style screws typically used or is there a way to install nut/bolt? Project #2 is to cut through for a compass mount (a backup if GPS down). Is that as simple as drilling a hole to start and then using jig saw to cut opening? Any comments /advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Sounds like a plan

I don't think you will have any problems with what you describe. The interior liner is substantial enough to screw directly into it, or you can add some plastic toggle bolts. There is an inch or so gap between the back side of the coaming and the liner for your compass, so you may have to put a block of wood under the base of your jigsaw. I found that a great blade to do this is for cutting laminates. There is no kerf - the blade's cutting edges are ground. It's very sharp, cuts clean without breakout, and costs way more than any other jigsaw blade. I think mine was over $4.00 (for one). Are you making your own swingarm or have you bought one?

Purchased swing arm

I look forward to the luxury of time! No, I purchased a swing arm from WM. Thanks for the support information... the dealer I bought the boat from has left me with, "do what you can, experiment" Lots of good info on this site though, great forum! For the plastic toggle bolts - do you mean those anchors that expand when you screw into them, like you would use for a hanger on gypsum wall board without a stud nearby? Thanks

These plastic toggle bolts

work pretty well. I think I got them from Home Depot.
