I'd like to install guages on both my plastic holding tank and plastic fuel tank. Is there any magic to cutting a hole in plastic tanks and attaching/seating a tank sending unit so that it is leak proof? Will self tapping screws thread themselves into the plastic?

No magic to it

Yes, self-tapping screws with thread into plastic. There should be a rubber gasket included that goes under the flange to seal it. If you're installing a Snake River AcuGage, you should only need an internal sender (which must be special ordered from the mfr) for your diesel tank...the waste tank sender goes on the outside of the tank. Both, plus your water tank(s) can go the same 4-tank system.

Tank Gauges

If you don't want to drill any holes in the tanks, try Snake River Electronics. These consist of special adhesive strips on the sides of the tanks. They provide a readout on a digital display (in tenths). Very accurate. I believe these are the same ones used on the new Hunters. I installed them on a H34. Took less then one day. Biggest job is snaking the #22 wires.

Diesel sender must go inside tank

External sender isn't CG approved for use on on diesel tanks, only on waste and water tanks. Nor is the Snake River gauge approved for use on gas tanks at all, only for diesel. However, the diesel sender is encased in a pvc tube same as the senders for metal tanks...so it never comes in contact with the contents either.
