Very, very sorry Sumner. You were both lucky to have each other and such a great collaborative life! It was an inspiration for me to follow your adventures.

I've admired and even have felt a little jealous of the adventures you and Ruth have had.

I hope you can find peace again.

I had no idea you were going through a tough time. I had speculated that the decline in your postings was the result of you two being off on some grand adventure. I'm saddened by the truth.

With my best regards,

r

Sumner, I also have read your posts about your wonderful times with Ruth these past years. The one thing that always struck me about the two of you is the palpable love and admiration you had for each other. You were both very lucky to have had the time together that you got, but I know, it is never enough. You are one of the lucky ones to have the memories you have. I am so sorry for your pain in losing Ruth.

Hugs, Patti

Sumner; Like many others here I also feel a sorrow for you during this most difficult time of your life. I have enjoyed the sharing with us that the two of you have given to help make this site a source of information and enjoyment. I have seen the passion in the both of you in your photos in your sailing and again thank you for your sharing with us. I hope that you are able to find peace during this difficult time.

Regards, Tom

Sumner,

My heartfelt condolences.

It was very clear from your posts that you and Ruth truly loved each other and the life you created. Although you had only a relative few years of that; many never see a day of it. Cherish the memories.

All the best,

Clay

I am so sorry for your tremendous loss, no words can relieve the pain. You and Ruth have been a great inspiration here to a lot of us not only from a sailing perspective but that it was clear you two have a true bond and love others can only envy.

God Bless

Ruth's family, my family and I would like to thank everyone for all the kind words. I printed out the responses so that Ruth's children could see the impact Ruth had on all of us and what a great community that this is to be a part of.

Thanks to all of you and I'll be seeing a lot of you over time I hope. I'd like to end with a couple pictures of Ruth that I really like...

I called Ruth my habitual crocheter as she crocheted every were we went and at home.

Even though she never learned to swim she really enjoyed the boat. We could go out over a month in a boat you couldn't even stand up in below and we wanted to stay out longer. I've never been with anyone that was so easy to be around and loving.

Maybe my favorite shot is the one above where she is taking us out of a canyon on Lake Powell after a huge storm where I fractured my shoulder and couldn't start the outboard for 3 days. She took it all in stride and even went along with us continuing on with the journey for another 9 days.

Oh how I'm going to miss her,

Sumner

Tonight, I raise my glass in Ruth's honor.

You've got fair winds, flat water and full sails. The sea is always golden. The drinks are cold. The skies are clear for you as far as you can see.

Ruth, please lend us your navigator for a whole longer.

We still need him, and you're now on your permanent mooring.

Sleep well.

Best - Jeff
