When the time came to install my garim fish finder and replace the old depth recorder, the in hull transducer seemed the way to go. did not want the extra expense of hauling the boat to install a through hull transducer. came here to the forum and read all the post on the zip lock bags, wax, oil, ect. purchased the inhull transducer from garmin and pulled the wire from the unit mounted in the cockpit to the vberth. tryed the ziplock, then the wax and oil. the transducer would not shoot through the hull. i have never found out if it was the fiberglass or bottom paint or what the problem was. the guys in the boat yard expressed the inhull mount was not a good way to go if you want the full benefit of a fish finder and even for depth it can reduce reliability shooting through the hull. got the boat out of the water in september and installed the through hull transducer. everthing is working great, maybe the problem was between the keyboard and the chair?
