Doug,
You might want to rethink the aluminum. If your batteries gas off any the fluid and gas will eat the aluminum. I fight that with our plane''s battery box. Wood or hi density plastic would be more resistant to the battery acid.

Trex or one of the other brands of HDPE faux wood would be a great choice. Looks nice, no painting required, acid resistant and never rots.
