ok Ive figured it out , against most advice here I opted for the 4stroke 9.9 . the new motor is 20lbs more then whats hanging on the transom now. The boat does not list to starboard now and I keep two 3 gallon tanks under the starboard cockpit. so with the added weight of the new motor should it list I can merely take the extra tank "15lbs" and store it on the port side. I also had him put on a high thrust prop. the river I'm sailing in has a constant 5knot current so dont want to underpower the boat and realize its a done deal once the motor leaves the shop.
I am going to get the bimini as well and hold off on an auto pilot , I'll take the advice and grab a tiller tamer instead,I already have a tiller tamer so got the reach thing covered. Our docks our going in this morning so will let you know soon enoguh if the boat leans to far with the new engine , thanks for all the advice and will keep posted as to the outcome

Bimmini

Just to let you know. The bimmini with and without the strn rail seats are different. If you are still considering the seats you may want to hold off on the bimmini.

Rick, if you don't have stern rail seats now, can you install a bimini that will be compatible with a later/future stern rail installation? BrianW

Not Sure

On the 26 nad 260 I am pretty sure the bimmini mounts to the seats. On the 23.5 and the 240 the brace monts to the seats.

They may be able to manufactur the bow or the brace longer so that you can mount it without the seats and then when you do get the seatscut it so it fits properly.

I think I'd get the seats first though.

Bad Co if you're going to install perch seats you might want to consider the tiller extension lock box instead of the tiller tamer or clutch.
You will need an extension to reach the tiller from the perch seats anyway so for $34 you can turn it into a tiller lock.

Instead of using a tiller extension I will use a remote control with the ST1000+ autopilot to steer from the perch seats.
BTW I made my perch seats for about $25. I used 1/4'' vinyl laminated aluminum honey comb panels for the seats $2/ lb. I used rubber rod holder clips from fishing store as clip on hinges $6 pair. The clip on the the lower stern rail. I used an aluminum tube laying around the house for leg with a ss flange from Minney's $2. I edged the panels with split vinyl tubing from WM (most expensive part $4.)
As for the bimini top, hardly ever used it except at anchor.
