Since you bought a 9.9 Tohatsu electric start, jsut a couple notes. The Nissan and Mercury 9.9 were built by Tohatsu so parts are interchangable should you not be near a Tohatsu dealer when parts are needed.

Years ago when the motor trolling plugs were improved, I started using them for motor hookups as they will work nicely since they can handle when drawing the amperage when starting the engine.. Make sure the red line is attached to the postive or plus side of the battery and the black is connected to negative side of the battery.

For those of you with a two battery system, never change the battery selector while the enginge is running or you could destroy the charging unit in the motor.

Follow up

I was a lifeguard for the State of Ohio while I was in college. The doctor informed me just the other day that I have "sun spots" on my face that could develop into melanoma so I think the bimini top will be the next big purchase. I knew it would catch up to me some day. I hate sunscreen! Messy stuff! Not sure it works that great anyway!

, wait that damn bottle of rum I brought aboard last july could have been left out the next morning was terrible !!!!!!
Gee bad_com_pany, been sailing with "Captain Morgan"? LOL That CAN lead to trouble!

No big ticket purchases for our boat (and no regrets). However, I have a list of small things that have been worth their weight in gold. So in no particular order.

  • Davis tiller tamer-makes single handing easy. Better yet, makes it easy to go down below and get a beer.
  • LED replacement bulbs for all the interior lights and the mast light. This, along with our solar charger makes it possible to spend a week at a time out on the boat on the hook without having to recharge at marinas.
  • A new, larger Fortress anchor and bow roller. Makes sleeping easier.
  • Wincher self tailer add ons. Cheap and get the job done.
  • My wife made a boom tent and a wind scoop/hatch cover out of tyvec fabric. Makes rainy days and nights tolerable when we're moored or anchored.
  • A new forestay. Too bad we didn't think of that before the mast came down like a tree in a wind storm while we were sailing.
  • Our symmetrical spinnaker came with the boat, but it makes the difference whether we argue over starting the motor, or actually keep sailing and go somewhere in light winds.
  • I made my own tel tales out of yarn and split nylon washers that mount about shoulder high on the shrouds. No stiff neck from looking up at a mast top indicator that isn't there anyway cause it broke off.
Ok, that's my list.

PS, Bad_com_pany, I thought you jumped ship and got rid of your sailboat.
