" The Log of Donald Crowhurst"
Ron, Good idea. Shore beats swabs probs...whoops, "issues" with boats, or politics ugh!The L. of D. Crowhurst was of the first 'round the world single handed race with the likes of: Robin Knotts Johnson (a great saior of the finest order, nice person too), Montessior, and the best saiors of the time.It is all completely factual, except for a few authors notes on what 'must' have happened and a real twist at ending that is only found in real life; copied for novels...;-)Someone mentioned Triston Jones? I have read 'em all. A superior Welsh sailor, and writer for that matter, but, though based on fact, I would not call Impossible voyage non-fiction, or the others for that matter...he was a great taleteller...Two years Before the Mast is another favorite of all...My favorite factual is Robert Manrys honest report on his cross the Atlantic expedition, "Tinkerbelle" a 14ft wood center-board that made the Atlantic crossing, and that record will never be broken, not with the gear and zero support he had.Best all time novel, and mostly fact with excellent cruising tips, "Overboard" a cruise across the Pacific, and a great read too.All of these are in the liberary of congress, just gave "Tinkerbelle" to a friend, and "The Log of Donald Crowhurst" is hard to find (folks steal it from libraries). The best survival sailing story, with a lotta real sailing stories in it too, is: "Adrift" by Steve Callahan, a friends sailing buddie too.Well, finally...I knew there would be sumthin of value I could share with all the mates and lasses...;-)
