I just bought my first sailboat a 1986 Catalina 27 and the whole family (3 of us)are very excited. We plan to stay most weekends on the boat and a discussion came up concerning the icebox. It is not the most accessable and was looking for ideas surrounding the best usage of the space or perhaps modifications for keeping food.

congrads on the new boat! we have found that storing food only in the ice box with a separate ice chest for drinks and another for ice storage is the ticket for weekend cruising. we only open the ice box when it comes to meal time. the ice chest with drinks of course gets flip flopped open all day. and the ice chest that stores your back-up ice is only opened when needed. we also freeze a case of water and store half in the ice box and put the other half in the drink chest. the frozen bottles of water keep the food cool and when they thaw you drink them.
