Ice box refrigeration

I recently installed an Ashland "Coolerator Model #1002" in the galley ice box. It froze over because food was too close to the coils. after adjusting, it barely cooled the box at all. I replaced it with the same model sent to me under warranty. Now, again, it's only cool to the touch, but is worthless for cooling our food. are there affordable units that will actually "work" in my boat? Would love to hear some recommendations on units from your boat(s)

I installed the Adler/Barbour Coolmatic 55, Condensing Unit and the "O" evaporator. It works great. The "O" works as a freezer and the rest of the icebox is a fridge. Cost less than $500
