Ice Box Insulation

I am planning to insulate the ice box in my 88 C-30. I have extensively researched prior posts on this DIY project. The ice box exterior is extremely difficult to access even when removing the adjacent drawers. I don't want to start drilling holes in the non-accessable side and then fill with foam. I have not read any posts regarding insulating the interior of the ice box and I am wondering why not? I have found an insulation type "blanket" which is very flexible, has foil on both sides and can be cut to fit any size panel. Why not insulate the interior and leave a small hole at the bottom for drainage? Would appreciate opinions and experiences.

Did just that

Our 83 Cat was going to live in Baja California and I wanted cold drinks. I insulated the interior with foam and covered it with the foil on two sides of bubble poly (common stuff). I used foil tape to seal the edges. I don't use ice so needed no drain. Did the lid also. Thickness is about 1 1/2 inches on all sides. Foil is easy to clean. Result? Cycling of the refrig was reduced to half and cold drinks are available with the usual hot Wx. I can freeze the contents if thermostat set too low. I used contact cement for foam, etc. and no drilling so it can be restored back to original. I tried foam spray on exterior, but one side unavailable. Smaller box, but that is an asset as it is a smaller volume to keep cold.

Ice Box

I did mine three days ago. You can find various methods in the archives. I went to Home Depot and bought a roll of foil backed fiberglass insultion and a roll of foil tape. I took out the drawers and cabinet and was able to do three sides and the bottom. Last spring I added rubber weather stripping around the top teak covers.

Thanks for the suggestions. Today I bought a 5'roll of foil insulation and some foil tape. I will cover as much of the exterior ice box as I can reach. But, I'm still wondering if anyone has tried insulating the asymetrical interior surfaces?
