Hi, I recently moved from Portland, Oregon to Yuma, Arizona and had to leave my beloved Catalina 27 behind at the time. Before the move I was in the midst of blister repair. She is sitting on a trailer (not mine) at a boatyard in Portland at this time, and I would like to get her to Yuma so that I can finish the blister repair and put her back in the water. The problem is, I have no trailer to haul her down her on, and, if I put her on a transport, the logistics of storage seem pretty tough (boat jack stands, a crane etc. etc.) Anyone have any ideas...I have looked at trailers (new) and they are very spendy for the length of time I will need one. find a cradle to fit your boat and fasten it to a utility trailor. they are alot easier and cheaper to find.

HELLO: I am in the sailboat trailer mfg. business,VIKING TRAILERS. I am not looking to sell you a trailer., I can tell you that if you go with the cradle and trailer you need to find a trailer with a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. and with a deck area of 20ft. or 18'min. length,this will give you room for tongue weight adjustment front to back on the trailer deck.,hope this helps you and good luck. P.S. I also have a C27.

I think a C 27 is big to pull with a pickup truck and a traler and boat that is not a good fit with the truck will be a nasty ride I think its worth the money to have the boat trasported The guys can get the boat on and off alift trailer with out a crane and you can get stands from a boat yard they have them laying around most of the year.You can buy stands and sell them on Ebay whe you are done. John

I am both an RV'er and a C27 owner. I know something of both towing and boating. The idea of towing a C27 from Portland to Yuma really runs up the caution flag in my mind. That would be a tough drive in a car, much less a big rig. And you'd definately need the right rig! By that I mean a very well designed trailer with electronic breaks in good condition, a good sway minimizing hitch, and a powerful tow vehicle. It's not very flat between Portland and Yuma. By the time you got all that together, you'd be better off paying for the transport, unless you were going to semi trailer sail the boat. Last fall I was checking out the following link for boat stands (which you'd need at the Yuma end): http://www.boatstands.com/ They were very nice and helpful in conversations, and the price was attractive. Hi Karen, so far you've received some excellent advise. We routinely trailer our C27, trips of several thousand miles up and over several mountain ranges is not unusual. Our C27 on it's trailer weighs 9000lbs, we use a diesel powered Chev 3500 dually to tow it (I wouldn't recommend less). Due to its beam, permits for on the hi-ways and cities are required. My best advice to you would be to obtain a cradle or similar support and have the boat loaded onto a semi-trailer. Unless you are very experienced with towing heavey and awkward loads and have the right equipment, I would leave it to the professionals.

I just had another thought while rereading some of the other replies, if you do purchase some stands remember that the draft on the standard Cat 27 is 4ft 6in and not the 4ft claimed in the brochures and papers. The overall height will also determine what type of trailer can be used (don't want to snag any power lines or low bridges).

Karen, I had a simmular problem only in reverse re/ embarkation points. L.A. to Seattle for my S&S Yankee Dolphin. I contacted the OWNER of the trailer and asked that I might rent his trailer, I was willing to repair the brakes on it and he agreed to let me use it for "Zip" and to return it to him I found someone "southbound" to return it for the price of the gas and one nights lodging at a Motel 6. (just a thought)
