I bought a Ray Marine ST1000 auto pilot.
I haven't been to my boat with it yet so I have no plan on how I will set it up. I'm wondering how others mounted and rigged theirs.?

Be sure to follow the directions (dimensions etc) I purchased a mount that I attached to the lazzaret lid. It mounts near the starboard edge of the lid. I installed the attachment pin to the top side of the tiller. I do have some pictures of the mounting of the mount to the lid but they aren't posted, so I can link to them. I can send you a few if you want.

That would be real nice.
I've looked around the forum some and I saw a few that said they mounted to the cockpit seats. (different boats)
Mounting to the laz lid sounds better to me.

Mine is mounted to the top of the starboard coaming next to the laz lid. I added the available shaft extension.

Thanks,
I went there and on my 1st search I found plenty of posts and a few pics.
Now I have another project!
I had planned on sailing tomorrow, but they're predicting 60 % chance of rain, scattered thunder storms.
Maybe I'll work on the boat and just daysail on Sunday.

Ok time to 'fess-up'. You did quite a bit of research before buying the S. Now that you have it and have been using it as much or more than anyone on here how about an update. Do you like it? Do you thing it was the right boat for you guys? etc.? etc.?

Spill your guts to the world and don't worry about stepping on anybody's toes,

That is probably the cleanest, simplest and cheapest way to go. I did mine that way, extensions are only about $25.

ARRG!
I just finished a pretty long response, and when I hit send, it went to a login screen as if I hadn't already logged in. It said something about a cookie problem.
This time in short:
I find some of the negative stuff I heard is true, but so is the good stuff.
I would like a bigger more comfortable boat but I just can't afford it.
For what it is, it's great. I think I made a good choice. It's the biggest cruising type boat that I can manage with my little 6 cylinder Explorer, and I can go anywhere I want with it. Little by little I'm adding all the bells and whistles, and eventually I'll have it set up nice, but it's good just the way it came.

Well I spent all day today working on the AP install. It's so hot here, it was hard to keep at it. I went for putting it over the laz. I got everything done except for gluing in the pins. Dry sailed in the driveway awhile, steering with the AP. Can't wait to hit the water.

Sorry late to respond....

I mounted mine on port, and like it better since I can control the engine AND AP, and can access the laz while using the AP.

its a great investment! makes life easier.
