• Sailing is all about the Weather.

Big into the exploration of Atlantic Hurricanes since Katrina came uninvited into his world, James (Jim) Gurley (JamesG161) has followed every Tropical Storm birthed in Atlantic, Gulf and Caribbean waters since. Being a boater, he knows that we often need more time to prepare than we get from the TV weather folk. Jim relies on the science of storm development to share early warning info with friends and fellow boaters.

Early in 2018, Jim and John Shepard, (JSSailem) started to chat about the weather data available. John asked Jim to help forecast Pacific NW storms, and this morphed into discussions on weather forecasting.

For John, sailing in the PNW is sometimes hit and miss. One day is ugly, then a string of beautiful days but no wind, followed by a series of blue-sky days and 12 knot breezes. Being ready for those great sailing days means you need to look to the Pacific Ocean and what is brewing. John has been into Pacific NW Weather since the 1970’s when his first PNW November storm hit bringing more than 40 days and 40 nights of continual rain.

Together we want to share information, new APPs, safety, and thoughts about letting the weather help you. Identify some of the resources for sailors and help prepare you for your next sailboat outing.

It is far better to go out on the water knowing what to expect in weather terms, than to be out on the water and see dark ominous clouds suddenly appear, unprepared.

Hopefully the last of the season, but it will probably become TD IOTA.
They say is it pronounced "EEE OH TAH". But my mother, who was always right, said it "Eye OH TAH".
We will see who wins... My Mother versus New Cycle.;)

Lets hope it does not follow Hurricane ETA.

I spent most of my (mis-spent) youth in Texas, so can still speak a little Suthern! Y'all got that?
I am still mis-spending my youth (well, old age now) in Texas. In the part of Texas where "The Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise" means something. In the five years we've been in the Hill Country, we've seen three bridges washed away by flash floods in creeks that you can normally walk across without getting your ankles wet.

The proper use of y’all in this sense, since you are addressing a large group of people. Is “all y’all “ this is the “pluraler” (ha!) form of the plural y’all as in “All y’all got that?” Now I’m fixin to get some breakfast. Have a good day!

” Now I’m fixin to get some breakfast.
Lived in Mississippi for a couple of years and ''tat thar'' sentence meant going to get it somewhere. If doing it yourself then ''You're fixin to fix breakfast''.

Tropical Storm IOTA is going to make it to Hurricane Status.

It appears to hitting Central America repeating what Hurricane Eta did about 5 weeks ago.

Most model do not show that it will enter the Gulf of Mexico, like ETA did.
Monday will tell the Story of direction.

Jim...

PS: Per my favorite Tropical Tidbits site owner, Levi Cowan, the correct pronunciation proved my Mother's way was correct!
"Eye OH TAH"

PSS: They corrected the Invest number also, to 31L.
