Hunter Vision, Sailtrack/Cars problem.

Hi All, I am looking for help with My Hunter Vision. The sail has plastic cars that go up the sail track. There is a plate to the side that can be removed, or shifted, to put cars back in track if they come out of track. ( Please see attached videos and photos.)
We have had this boat for ten years. Even with the plate over the track, with the slightest of wind in the sail, the cars come out of the track while raising the sail. Meaning I have to lower the sail, put them back in the track and raise the sail until the next car comes out. This is

unbelievably frustrating, especially as we have to raise sail outside the harbor. I was wondering if anybody has a fix/bypass for this? Or if anyone knows if Hunter has a fix for this? Also, the screw that held in the plate has come out and is now at the bottom of the marina!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd start by using a shim under the mast gate you have to get it at the right level so the cars won't have an exit point
or make a new mast gate of the right dimension

My 1990 Vision 32 sail track gate .... mine has 2 knurled bolts to hold in place .... I know know the boom hardware is from RigRite ... maybe the mast track is too?

Call Hunter Yachts (or a local Hunter dealership) and tell the parts dept you need a new mast gate and fasteners for your boat..

Mine had rather larger sail slides from the factory. It was grey. It also had runners on both the top and inside the track. Never any problem. I think you could simply figure out where the slides are coming out. Take the gate to a machine shop and have them make you a new one with larger dimensions in the area needed. As for the screw, just go to ACE and pick up some cheap ones of differing thread counts and diameters. When you find one that fits, go back to ACE and get one in stainless steel to match. Oh, maybe get two

My 1985 H-31 has a similar setup (Isomat mast & boom) the origins gate looked much like yours.
The original gate cover is long gone (died or went overboard).
I was able to replace it with a universal gate cover (stainless steel) that I believe came from West Marine.
There is a rectangular rear flange designed to slide in and remain (while needed) just above the gate and an attached knurled outer knob that that is connected to the rear flange by way of a threaded narrow diameter bolt.
Simply slide the rear flange into the gate, raise it in the track to just above the gate, tighten the outer knob to lock in place and viola ! Gate is closed and sail slugs remain in the track. If your setup is such that there are one or two slugs that are supposed to remain below the gate, buy two pieces and use one for the upper section of track and one for the lower.
Convenient and easy to use, largely bulletproof, and costs less than $20.

Thanks Joe, I called and emailed Hunter and they said that the former Hunter built that boat and that they wouldn't have anything for it! But everyone on this site has been SO much more helpful, I am grateful. Thanks, Julian

I use these on my H31 1983. Buy several because they can get knocked off. With a sail stop in my main flakes nicely between the lazy jacks and then I cover it with the sunbrella mainsail cover.
