Hunter Legend 240 polar settings

Hi , I've just fitted an Orca core 2 to my 240 linked to wind and depth and in the set up it asks to install the polars for the boat. The idea being that based on the wind speed, direction and polars etc the core can calculate if you are sailing efficiently and getting the best speed out of the boat so you can adjust the sail trim or course to improve performance.

Unfortunately I can't find any reference anywhere to be able to input the info, just wondered if anyone had the data - in saying that I'm pretty laid back and tend to set and forget the sails so it's not critical, it would probably highlight how bas a sailor I am !

Anyway if anyone has the info or how to find it I'd be grateful.

There was a thread on developing your own polars.

I have not seen any Polars for a Hunter 240. I would be surprised if Hunter developed them, and I have not seen them published for boats of that design or size.

@jssailem is probably correct.... you won't find those polars for an H240. But you could start with polars for a similar sized/designed boat... then while sailing see if you can improve your boat speed from what the polar settings indicate. This would allow you to modify an existing set of polars to your boat.

I looked for several boats that were relatively similar to the Hunter 240. . Here is the link I used.

There is a sliding scale as to similar sailing features.

LuckGrib has a catalog of polars for boats. Nothing is less than 30 feet. I could not find similar polars from the LuckGrib catalog of boat polars.

I suspect your best option is to sail the boat at various points of sail. Record your experiences at different wind conditions. Then create your own matrix. It likely does not need to be detailed to all degrees of sail. I’d choose 4 points.Identify the trim marks on your sheets (jib and main), identify the position of the jib blocks, the trim sets for you traveler.

With the presets you set the sails. Then make minor adjustments based on the conditions.
