I've been getting a lot of complaints about stepping on the rungs of the boarding ladder for the past 40 years... lol. Has anyone ever tried to build a small platform that temporarily hangs off of the rungs? Or has anyone used bolt on 2-3 inch wide steps? Love to see some pics if possible. Thanks

Such complaints miss the elegance of a small step for a dainty foot while boarding a magnificent ship.:biggrin:

This won't work for everyone or every situation but might give you some ideas

built this out of marine plywood, but have to keep it inside until needed.
Very nice. I had a couple of versions built similarly. I can't seem to find any really good pictures of the steps. The first was marine plywood covered with carpet which lasted many years. The second was a modification of an aluminum dinghy boarding ladder with some Starboard sides and aluminum plate that we could fold flat making it easier to transport on the boat with out taking up so much room. It sure was nice to be able to hook them anywhere along the aluminum toerail. We used them to get on and off at the dock as well as board the dinghy in the water.

Can you post a pic of your boarding ladder ??

We use one of these, which also comes in a 2 step version for higher freeboard. I just looked up he price, it's gone up! :)

I assume you are talking about the transom boarding ladder, probably made from 1" stainless steel tubing. We had one on our old C+C, and it was not comfortable on the feet. Our H37.5 has 1.5" wide flats on the rungs that make a huge difference.
These might help, but they are only 6" long:
