I have a 50 Hunter and am looking to install a water maker. I am curious to anyone that has one installed from the factory to the location they use for this unit?

We have a very reliable, but almost NEVER really used Village Marine unit (Now Parker owns Village Marine, but..)
Why don't you talk about where the boat is, what, where you'll be sailing, how often, etc. "The program"

agree with SG, if you are in the states they a rain collection system makes more sense. Depending on where you sail a water maker can make sense but at $1000snads of dollars You would only want one if you plan on sailing where it does not rain often.
Rain collection isn't nearly as easy or effective as a hose from the municipal water or other drinking water source :^)))
You might even fill it from the Lake Michigan with a little chlorine bleach (VERY LITTLE) to purify it, if you're concerned. If you were offshore, I'd think that a "fresh water" wash down pump and clean hose could fill your tanks.

We have a Hunter 45 CC, and have installed a water-maker. I have only seen the Hunter 50 at a boat show. On the Hunter website there is some information on installing a water-maker on the 45 CC. It will give you some ideas. First go to the "Hunter Model Information Center", the go to the "Hunter Information Center", click on "Downloads Hunter 45 CC. scroll
down to "Hunter 45 CC Water-Maker" open it up and there is 10 pages of installation information on the Seafari 170/350 U.S. GPD, Reverse Osmosis Desalination System. Hopefully it will give you some ideas for a similar installation on your boat. If you have any questions, PM me and I will give you any help I can.

If you look in the Hunter online technical documents, navigate to the H49.
There is a full write-up c/w photos on how they install a water maker in the 49. This would be identical for your boat.
The wm version will be newer, but it shows you how to do the piping, etc.

You are right. It's not there.
But,,, it was. Not sure why it was removed.
Contact Hunter. They have the document.
Basically it mounts under the settee stbd side. (In board locker)
The pump & filter mounts under floor on centre just forward if the batteries.
Plumbing is simple. They just T it into the water tank input. The tanks self-level, so you only need to plumb it into one.
But, there is a full write up with photos somewhere on the Hunter servers .
The 45 water maker install is very different from the 49. I just read the 45 install procedure, and there are significicant differences.

This is completely off topic. Anyone know what brand the alternator is that Hunter installed in my 2011 Hunter 50? It is painted red, with a single groove pulley and I have not seen an external regulator. I think it is 100 amps and is not a Hitachi. It has stopped working, and I need to pull it out.

If it doesn't have an external regulator, it must be stock Yanmar.
The upgraded alternatives that Hunter installed were Balmar, and the external regulator was ARS. It was mounted on the bulkhead above the engine .

My boat is a 2011 Hunter 50, this was the first year that they started using an Electromaax alternator although it is not as you described. Can you take a picture of it and I can tell you if it looks like mine. Mine has an internal regulator but is aluminum in color, no red.
If indeed the alternator is bad, I would recommend switching to the Electromaax, it puts out over 150 amps at idle! I know the owner so let me know and I will assist where I can .

Art, haven't done the relocation yet. It will be a winter project.
mcconkd, Thanks for the offer. I haven't planed on going thru the expense of changing the v-belt to a serpentine belt as I think 100 amps would be ok. We seem to always need to run the generator anyway. Any thoughts appreciated.

You will be happy making the change. We almost never run our gen set unless we need to use the air for the kids whil sailing. The difference is amazing. Go the the electromaax.com website to see what there alternator looks like. With the serpentine belt set up the belt never slips thus no small little rubber pieces all over from the v belt.
I will have some photos of the anti rotation bracket soon. Forgot to take them when I installed it. Will do so when winterizing
