I trying to source a new/used Mast and Standing Rigging for 1996 Hunter 376.

First I've tried contacting Hunter for the specs only to be told they can't help. They no longer have the design specs for this boat. Are they kidding???

I contacted Seldén Mast. They want me to have a dealer measure out my boat for a new mast and rigging. I find this overly complicated and a waste of theirs and my time if I really just want a secondhand mast (if I can find one)

DOES ANYONE, know what size Mast - make/model my boat takes (tall rig or standard)? What rigging standing rigging dimensions/length (B&R Rig). I'm not necessarily looking for a furling mast.

Look on this site at Boat info
It seems to have specs for your boat.

Contact US Spars at http://www.usspars.com. They don't sell used rigs, only new, but you're very unlikely to find anything used that will fit this boat without substantial modification. A new rig for a boat this size will run about ~$20-$30k with shipping, if they can still make one.

You need a Z601 mast and Z480 boom. Standing rigging specs are in the manual, I think, but there's no guarantee the lengths listed will fit the rig you end up with. You should have a rig in hand before determining standing rigging specs.

Can I use a H-39 Furling Mast?

Everyone - Thank you for your quick responses. I had found the corresponding pages for the rig dimensions in my owners manual, but when I sent this information to Seldėn they claim this was not very helpful to them and I needed to have my boat measured.

Phil, you answer my question spot-on. I was looking for what mast and boom was originally on the boat (i.e. Z601-M and Z480-B).

Now this leads to my next question:

CAN I USE A Mast from an H-39. It 2' longer but fundamentally (I believe) the same mast. Effectively this would create a Tall Mast Solution on my 376 without drastically affecting my RM 30% displacement - I've attached a side by side Sailplan comparison in the attachment.

I can pick up a 2010 H-39 Furling Mast for $1,800 if I act quickly, but don't want to waste money that wouldn't work or would jeopardize the safety of the boat.

TriSwiss;

Seco South probably made the original rigging for the Z spar mast. They might have the correct information in their records. Contact Jean and they are in the Tampa-St Pete area.

i think you mentioned the Z Spar mast. Z spar years ago decided to purchase Kenyone Isomat in Charlotte closing their operations in Florida and only four people went to Charlotte. The employees at Kenyon Isomat were in effect laid off and that created a major problem and I had boats without masts that were in stock that I could not sell. Hunter then went with Selden and Z Spar left the U.S. I will not go into the reasons why. Anyway, U.S. Spars opened up in the old location of Z Spar in Gainesville Florida and they are basically selling Z Spar product but under a different name. They may have the specs to your answers.

H-376 Mast & Boom De

Here is the Response from USSPARS::eek:

The original Z601 and Z700E are no longer produced. The new section profiles are Z602 ($7,730) or the Z602E furling ($8,887). The boom was always made the Z480 boom was also discontinued recently and has been replaced with the Z482 profile ($1,300).

Shipping cost is estimated from FL to NY ($750-Mast+ $300-Boom) = $1,050

Seldèn mast and boom came in about $2,500 more expensive for a conventional system.

I was really hoping to find a good used Mast from someone that was upgrading to a furling system.

As Phil pointed out, the cost of a replacement new mast, boom, sails and rigging is not cheap. As for used masts, they are out there but inspection is a must before buying.

So it looks like $10K for the spars, plus maybe another $10K for rigging, wiring, new lights and fittings. You'll have to do the math to see if this is worth it.

I wouldn't think that the boom section is too critical, so if you could find a used boom that is close to spec, that would save a few hundred dollars. But with the B&R rig, I would think that the mast needs to be pretty much an exact match. If you converted to a conventional rig, you could probably use a section from a boat of comparable size and weight to yours, but then you are in to relocating the shrouds, adding a backstay, etc, etc. Not sure how the boat would balance out then.
