Hunter 23 Jib and Marina Recommendation

Hunter 23 WK Claytor Lake
Hello, I'm trying to figure out how to set the Jib on my Hunter 23. It just doesn't seem right to me. When I attach the tack down low to a small cable that just comes out of the top of the deck, and then run the sheets to blocks that attach at the base of a stanchion, the jib hits the lifeline. I'll attach a picture - with apologies, it is not the best picture. I'm wondering if (1) the jib is the wrong size, or (2) the block is the wrong place or (3) the sheets should run outside of the lifeline, which I tried, and seemed worse or (4) the tack should go up higher to clear the lifeline? I tried this last one too, and it still looked odd, there was room to raise it about 18 inches, but then the jib head would hit the top. Also, does anyone recommend a marina in Southwest Virginia that knows how to work on this type of sailboat? I need some work done (windows replaced, stays fixed, motor mount replaced ). Thank you in advance for any advice. Chuck in Virginia with Hakuna Matata on Claytor Lake.

As far as a marina able to work on sailboats in SW Va. try Pelican Point on Smith Mountain Lake. I grew up in that area and they were the main sailboat marina then. I have no recent experience with them, but worth a call.

I agree with Kappy - the sheeting angle is not right, and that’s what’s letting the foot drape on the lifelines so much. Looking at other Hunter 23 pictures online it looks like there’s a fixed or track mounted block further aft - that’s where the sheet should run. The sail might still touch the lifelines on some points of sail but it will be much better than sheeting to the stanchion base.

I agree with above. Sheet is not supposed to run to that stanchion post. Look for or create an alternative.
Also that lower shroud is too loose. A little slack on the lee side is OK but floppy isn't.

On the 23.5 the sheet runs to a block on the deck forward of the winch. And I think inside the mast stays. The sheet going through the block you are using in the pic is way too far forward. Look for something further aft. That block you are using may have been for a roller furler.
