I recently rescued a Hunter 212 and I am looking for anybody else that owns a 212 to talk to about a few things: Does anyone have the spinnaker kit? What is included in the spinnaker kit? Does your boat have the short stays to aid in keeping the mast straight while it is being stepped? I would appreciate pictures of these things. I would appreciate just know there are some 212 owners out there. I would especially like to know if there are any of you near Dallas, Tx.

I see there are 22 others out there. Now, how do I get in touch with them?

Just picked up my 216

Just picked up my 2004 Hunter 216. Boat had been mothballed for 2 years. Boat is in great shape. Sails are brand new

Has V-Berth and Spinnaker upgrade. Putting a 4hp Johnson Longshaft on it. Wanted a new Suzuki, but decided to save $550.

Need to do a few maintenance items.
1. Refinish Bows Sprit Carbon Fiber - Mine is peeling, any tips?
2. Fix rudder dings/gouges. This is going to take a while. Using some West Systems and Gelcoat repair. We'll see how I do.
3. Bottom Paint - Going to leave it in the water. Using Interlux Micron CSC with Biocide. How do you paint the keel?

I brought home a Hunter 212 last July, and it has worked great for me. I don't moor it, but trailer it. Yes, I have the short stays which fit both sides of the main mast when stepping it. (I believe these should be standard with the boat, and work great, especially when using the jin-pole to step the mast by myself.) If you don't already have the photos you were seeking, I can try and take a couple of photos. I don't have the spinnaker kit, but if you obtain any info I would be interested in what you discover. Sorry, I'm in the Pacific Northwest, not anywhere close to TX.

Finally, a response from an actual 212 owner. Thanks.
My 'mini-shrouds' are not there. But, there is a hole that goes all the way through the mast just about where I expect them to be connected. Do yours go through the mast or are they just attached to the outside of it? Pictures would be great. So would pictures or even a video of your mast raising apparatus. You mentioned a jin-pole. What does that look like?
I am pursuing the spinnaker kit thing. I haven't found a 212 owner that has one. I will keep this forum informed of my progress with that.
I have found a few 212 owners on the yahoo group Hunter212. You should join it.
Thanks again for responding.

Your mast should have one vertical "slot" hole on each side. The short "mini-shrouds" have a T-shaped metal end, with a 90-degree bend. The mast end of each cable stay is placed into the slot, and turned to horizontal and attached to the deck. Yes, one cable goes to each side (not through the mast), and they make it much easier to raise the mast, as they limit side-to-side motion of the mast. They are very quick and easy to place, and also to remove, after the mast is up. The jin-pole attaches to the front of the mast, and makes it very easy to raise the mast, even with one person. As you've probably discovered, the mast is not the lightest in weight, and even when I have a buddy to help I use the side-stays and jin-pole, because it makes it so easy. I'm not certain I can attach photos on this [new to me] forum, so perhaps you can send me an email (click on my name in the margin and select), and I'll try to get some photos and get them back to you via email.
