Short Answer (no math!)

Since the H17 is capable of planing, there is no theoretical hull speed limit. Hull Speed limitiations arise for boats with heavier keels that under normal conditions cannot sail on the surface of the water. They "displace" water forward and aft of their hull creating bow and stern waves that limit the hull speed. As I have just passed the limits of my physics knowledge, I'll let the real scientists and mathematicians take over. I'm sure a more precise answer will follow soon.

Restructered Question

OK, I guess what I should have asked is how fast are you guys getting this boat to go? I realize this is a wind speed dependent question

max speed

I have clocked my 170 at 70 mph. It's a lot of work for my mini-van, so usually I keep it closer to 55, but sometimes my lead foot forgets there is a boat back there. john

theoretical hull speed

Someone will need to measure the speed in the water (as opposed to GPS over land). If you are curious about the theoretical hull-speed if its not planing, then you can use the following equation: hull speed (knots)= 1.34*SQT(LWL in feet) 1.34*SQL(14.4) = 5.08 knots But I'm sure the 170 can go faster when it planes.
