Last week a strong NW wind blew open my furling jib and shredded the sail. Am thinking of replacing the furling jib with a non furling jib. Anyone have experience with doing that? Thanks DF Cape Cod
As you know the original design for the 170 has the forestay integrated into the jib. Same configuration as my 216. I find the furler makes quick work of handling the jib from the centre of the boat, where a hank on will require you to be at the bow. Having some turns of the jib sheets around the furled sail along with a sail tie is good practice but if the wind is strong enough I suppose that might still fail.Last week a strong NW wind blew open my furling jib and shredded the sail.
