Oh hell no. Here I am thinking I did a nice job with the restoration of YOT. Ha! I'm a freaking hack by comparison. Georgeous boat. Thanks Maine.
Are you kidding! I'm misty eyed about the whole thing. There isn't a more worthy endeavor than creating something beautiful. This is a great story. The craftsmen, the community, the project. You Maine people have reason to be proud. These yachts are museum quality and then you take them out sailing and they're even more beautiful. But the story goes further than that. The craftsman and community that created this is what I wish America could get back to. I'm not holding my breath as the whole world seems to be heading the other way. But, if you don't recognize the beauty and value of these works, you can't tell how bad the crapateria that permeates our world against is. So kudos to you down easters for showing us a better slice of life. And to the people who paid for this for the same reason.

As a Project Manager/Engineer in a high end Millwork shop that is stunning. Outstanding craftsmanship. In this day and age is rare to see that kind of attention to detail being put into jobs. Today's construction environment is "How fast can you do it?"

That restoration was approx 70,000 man hours of labor.. I suspect Taylor is getting $50-60 per hour plus materials on a job like that...... Rockport Marine is a very special place and few if any places in the world can compete with their level of custom work. The ones who can are almost always also here in Maine.........
I can't even imagine what just ONE of these bronze custom made sisters would run.. Have you priced out bronze lately!!!!! If you think Titanium is expensive......
Each custom sister probably cost as much as many of our boats and there were going to be many more on this particular refit. IIRC the originals were steel, and rusted.. If you have to ask Taylor Allen "how much?" you probably can't afford it....

i am glad to see that there are some people in this world really mean it when they say that they respect good craftsmanship and or willing to put there money where there mouth is...
I hear all the time from people that say they do but when it comes to buying good cabinets made in a cabinet shop 90% of them will run to the prefab store or the big box store instead or they will ask me to match or beat the prefab/box store price...i just smile and say good luck with that

After About 100+ Hours of Work...
I completed a hope chest as a graduation gift for my daughter. I went into her room yesterday and she had stacked a number of boxes upon it.
I reminded her that the chest was one of a kind. It was hand crafted and lovingly finished just for her. There was no other like it in the world. No one, anywhere, could buy another. It was not simply unique it was one...of one.
I don't really think she understood the value until I explained that any marks she left on it now would (most likley) be discussed by her great grand child as she placed (and removed) her most precious memories from the same chest her great-grandmother once used.
Much of what was made in the last hundred years should be discarded. For some things....men must be wise enough to save, rebuild, renew.
We are stewards of man's gift to create greatness both large and small.
Clearly the men and women working on this project understood that.

I enjoy the art and beauty of a handmade boat but I never forget that if it was not for production boats I could not afford to own a boat now.
