How to Remove/Replace Electrical Panel Legends

I have an AC panel in my Hunter that has a sticker indicating that it was made by Ultra Panel Marine. It has an unused breaker/switch with a legend tag indicating "Spare". I have wired up this breaker to power some equipment aboard and I would like to replace the Spare legend with one that describes the function of the switch.

Does anyone know how these inserts are removed?

I'm with you: our panel looks very similar to this on a 2004/2005 Hunter 306, and I'd like to know how to find/buy/make new labels as well. What year is your boat?

I don't know the answer.

But looking at the image, I'd start by taking a jewelers screw driver and seeing if they slide to the right and can be popped out.

Zooming in on the first Spare label (3rd from the bottom) it almost appears as if the label is part of a plastic piece that has sagged slightly to reveal an open slot in the panel face behind it. It appears as if your panel is designed to hinge open. Can you take a peek from behind the panel face to see if they might be a push-in style label mount?

My Hunter is a 2007 41AC.

I have looked at the back. There is a foil strip about 1-1/2" wide running from top to bottom right over the position of the inserts. I assume that the purpose of that is to hold the lights in place and prevent light leakage from one position to another.

Thanks for the tip to call Ultra Panel. I did send them an email but there has been no reply yet.

I'll add my thanks to @Apex : that's very helpful. I need to add a circuit for deck lights in the next month or two, and I'd really prefer to have the label be correct. My 22 year old panel still looks and works great, and it's really handy to have the backlighting on the breaker labels, as otherwise I'm bending down and squinting.

It's my guess that the clear plastic bubble-labels are just glued on. Looking at the back of the panel, it sure doesn't look like those foil strips are meant to be messed with or peeled up. I think it's some sort of integrated strip of LEDs just for lighting the labels.panel2.jpeg

The labels are relatively thin plastic held in place by an adhesive of some type.

Well, this is all really good info for those of us (maybe 10 years of Hunters, a complete WAG) who have this type of panel! I've ordered a "deck lights" label from SailboatOwners, and it looks like an easy swap.

I never had any luck trying to deal with ultra panel marine, Miami when trying to purchase a separate panel for my AC system. They never responded to several email & attempts at calling. Eventually, I had to contact Beneteau spare parts & they successfully ordered one for me thru Ultra Panel. I got the impression that they don’t want to deal with general public.

How about 3D printing them. If you do not have such a printer, many libraries do. Use double sided sticky tape or contact glue to put them in place.

I dunno. "They sell them here on SBO" is really all I needed to know...A few bucks, and it's a done deal, not to mention supporting the site (in a very minor way).

The problem is that shipping to Canada costs 10 times more (USD 38.xx + 3.87 for label), It would be around CAD 50 total for that label, no longer a few bucks. So no thank you.

Fair enough: I shouldn't have been dismissive, so please accept my apologies for that. I think the "deck lts" sticker that I just received today cost $3.87 plus $7.97 for shipping. I'll admit that the shipping seems like a waste of money, given that this is a very small item that could easily fit in a 1st class envelope, but I'm still happy to support this site, even in a small way. I'd be happier still if the whole $11 went to the site, vs. a large portion to the USPS for delivering an item that probably weighs 1/100th of an ounce. :) Still and all, my time has some value, so $11 for a perfect replacement label seems reasonable. I wasn't aware that it cost so much more to ship to Canada, so I guess that's not great. Good luck if you need to do the same!
