I bought a gimballed Hillerange propane range off Craigslist (for $150) and want to trade out for the gimballed range on my boat that has a non-functional oven and burner. Basically it had only one burner working. Can someone tell me how to get the old one out? They are about the same size. How do these fittings come out and go in?

Unless you find someone who has done the exact same job, you are going to have to do this on your own. Go slow and give yourself time to think things through.

Look at the mounts and search for any "keeper" on the mounts that restrain the pivots. The range will have to be lifted out of the mounts. Best to have two strong bodies for the job. Make certain the gas supply is secure.

So these mounts have numerous different designs? I can't tell by looking from the front how to take it apart. I see a thin nut as part of the assembly that I can probably get to with an open end wrench, but it seems like some kind of murder putting it back together on the new one because there's no way to reach in that tiny space with anything other than a single tool. I am hoping for a "keeper" and lift out, but for the life of me I can't see anything resembling that in there. Could the old gimbal and new one be incompatible?

Stephen; Take out a tape measure and write down the dementions of the old stove and new, and the old gimble dimensions and new.

My 1978 Pearson P-31 has a two burner and oven, presurize alcohol stove that simple lift directly up and out of the gimbles. No fuss, no muss, and it is a one person lift (although that person is now a nearly 20 years ago retired Marine).

Send me the demesions or contact me via the e-mail and I will see what we can do.

You might call Seaward and ask them. They've made so many ranges of all kinds that they'll probably be able to help you, regardless of make & model.

look close in the rear, mine has a barrel bolt to hold in place. Pull the bolt and it gimbles on pins on either side. Make sure the propane is off, and u should be sble to lift straight up and out. Red

Stephen,

The gimbal brackets for my Hillerange 3 burner stove are pressed metal with a slot that is open at the top. The axle of the stove slides into the slot and is captured by a spring metal keeper that is part of the bracket. The sizing of the keeper and a groove in the axle allow the keeper to be pressed off the end of the axle just enough to lift the stove axle out of the slot. The difficult part is to press the keeper away from the stove just enough to allow the axle to be lifted without having the tool interfere with lifting the axle. I expect Hillerange has a special tool to do this. I used pieces of Starboard shaped to fit the slot and adjusted their thickness until I got just the right of movement of the keeper. The Starboard worked very nicely and it takes only a few seconds to insert the Starboard and lift the stove out of the brackets. I won't say how long it took to get to this solution. Two tools are required, one for each side, and two people to lift the stove.
