I replaced the salon sole with new teak and holly plywood and want to try and match the color of the new sole with the existing sole in the fore and aft section in my 1985 Hunter 34. I believe the teak was oiled many years before it was varnished and has an almoset cherry wood shade to it. What would be the best way to match it ? Oil the new wood and then varnish ? Stain it close to the shade of the existing and varnish or polyurethane it ? I have already sealed the bottom and edges of the new sole with three coats of epoxy to prevent any future problems with water damage. Any experience or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
