can a C30 take without cracking the hull or breaking the mast? We sail the south end of Lake Michigan. The waves can build excessively especially when the wind is out of the N or NNE. The ride (motoring out) is quite wild when smashing down from the top of a 5 ft wave. I usually turn back to the marina (as do most of the other boaters - power included)when the ride gets wild like that. I get concerned about equipment damage and wonder just how much force the old gal can handle. She's 20 and has been in the pacific too. I figure she can take more than I care to experience she's lasted this long and is in excellent shape, but I would like a "never exceed" senario just so I know when we are near our limits. Can anyone describe conditions that caused catastrophic failure? Thanks, Joe

Me too...

Last week we motored out of the marina in MDR into 6-8 feet waves every 12 secs or so. The bow would dip into the water - it was freaky. I waited for a suitable gap...spun around and put..putted back to the slip.
