Never Enough

Use the boat at least 2-3 times a week year round. Just finished sailing a Hunter 31 from Coconut Grove Florida to Savannah Georgia and had a blast.

165 days and not liveaboards

It has been a sailing year. Our first sail was 4 days on Jan 13 in Oriental and Beaufort, NC. Then we left for Florida and gone 125 days. Back to New Bern then a 1600 mile trip to Bermuda in june, july. Then many long weekends in The neuse River area. We hope to get on the water again and down to Key Largo in November. What a year. Made many new friends, great places and too many adventures. The only thing holding us back is a new grandchild on the way @ Nov. 4th. But I've already bought little Lil a baby life jacket. Always need new crew. Jake

Summer sailing

I try to sail every weekend (at least one of the weekend days) all season, from May 1st to the end of september. I allmost allways day sails but I looking forward to a few overnight sails next season. I would sail more often if I could get the crew (Wife and spouse) to remember that mutiny is still a hanging offence. I keep working on it. Happy Sailing

Days on the Bay

Have had my C 36 for nine years. The first eight were spent hiring teachers for one of the largest school districts in the U.S., therefore minimal use of the boat during the summers on the Chesapeake Bay. HOWEVER, retired this year and spent 70 days, split between "work days" on the boat, weekends with friends, two 10 day cruises, and an off shore experience -- Ches Bay to Block Island -- on another C 36. Goal: next year -- more days! Still limited by the fact that my wife has not yet retired.

What????

How can the one category have 95% and the others over 25%??? Doesn't this add up to ver 100%?? Who's doing the math around here? Hope it's not my navigator!

...maybe next year.........

I sail my 1972 O'Day Mariner off the trailer so I need a decent set of hands to help set up and launch. Two children under age 6, no help. My wife, who has never set foot on the boat, no help. I have to depend upon others, and with crazy work schedules, daycare etc. I got the boat in a total of two times this summer. (but it is two more times I got sailing than if I didn't have a boat) always look for the bright side, right? I'm looking forward to the day my oldest child can reach and hook-up the jib stay!!!!!! I also got out a few times in a sunfish which is nice for getting my kids a small taste of sailing. ....maybe next year will be better.....

Unfortunately...

With 60 to 65 hours a week at work there isn't much time for sailing. Unfortunately I was able to sail only twice(actually two afternoons) and it wasn't even on my boat. Hopefully next year is going to be MUCH better! (Unfortunately I am not sure that's going to be the case) Pierre

BVIs here we come

This wasn't our year. Wind Sprint has been away from the dock only five times this year, not the usual 20-30. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and getting her past the treatments will take us into January. The good news is that she's doing well and the reward at the end of it all is a crewed charter in the BVIs in mid-January. We had planned it before the bad news but it became her "beer after the finish line" after a lost summer. I really miss our time with friends on the water but we'll make up for it next year. Every day on the boat is a vacation, no matter the weather. The BVIs will be just a start on a great year.

50 something...

Like Rick Webb said, the weather is just getting good right about now at this lattitude. We have a relatively small lake here in Austin (compared to my hometown on the Great Lakes), but at least we get to sail it year round. Just spent the entire weekend on the boat. A mini tornado ripped the docks apart on Friday night, so we dinghied to the boat on Saturday. Spent the day helping out neighbors boats, tying down loose/shredded sails, and saved one boat from sinking. Sunday was 3.5 hours of motoring up the lake, and 2 hours motoring back, followed by 2 hours of absolutely fantasic sailing back to port. Even though the motoring stunk, I realized that we are truly lucky! Rob

Best yet!

Had the Catalina 25 SK on a 3 week cruise in the San Juans, a 9 day race/cruise down and back 120 miles R/T on the Columbia River, numerous day races and many day sails on the Columbia. I had a great year, but once school starts for me time gets real scarce. I won't have any time until Thanksgiving now. Probably will bring the boat home for winter, but lots of great memories from 2001 on the water!

Lots of sailing time and still not enough

as far as I am concerned. We sail the Western Lake Erie area, and sometimes get in only a couple of hours per day on Sandusky Bay. Other times, we sail to destinations that have been as far as 40 miles from home. This year, our boat went in on March 24th and we will come out on November 16. That is the last day the marina will pull boats!!! We have spent almost every Friday thru Sunday on board and whenever we have any break in a bad weather day, we take advantage and set sail!!!! Additionally, we did several destination sails of from 3-5 days this summer. Total? I really don't know a count. But, never enough!!!!

Never enough

I'm lucky to live in San Diego, Ca. We sail year round but even then it averages out to about twice a month that on a sat. or sunday we get to day sail.

Time on the H20!

It's been a year of sailing - from skippering a Catalina 30 to Catalina Island (The Isthmus for the Rendezvous), to foredeck monkey on Olson 30's on Monterey Bay, helping deliver a Catana 471 from Seattle to Newport, OR, sailing my Catalina 25 (fixed keel) in several regattas (including the Bridge to Bridge - entrance of the Columbia River down the coast to Yaquina Bay, Newport, OR); and next month, off to the Canary Islands to help deliver another Catana 471 from the Canaries to St. Lucia. Yep, it's been a good year for sailing! ...But you know, I haven't had enough time on my 25! Geez, mon! Smooth sailing to all, Tommy........................._/)

Horrible Year

Unfortunately, this year my wife and I bought a Hunter 170 hoping it would be easier to trailer and launch than our Catalina 22. My wife hates the lack of stability in the 170; next year, it's back to the C22. Anybody interested in buying a rarely used Hunter 170?

2001 a Great Sailing Year

This year our first on our Hunter Legend 37 we have currently sailed 57 days on our boat and are still planning on a few more. On average I sail between 40 and 60 days a year and have dsone so for the past 10 years. Still great fun, however, mooring my boat 8 minutes from my house does lead itself to spending lots of time on board as its no hassel getting to my boat. Barrie McDonald Sailing out of Point Roberts Marina wa. but living in sunny Tsawwassen just north of the border south of Vancouver Canada.

About those kids...

This is to Stan in Sister Bay regarding taking his under-6 kids out next season. Our 6-year-old daughter got caught up briefly in the lines of a Sunfish when it went over unexpectedly, and to this day she shrieks if the boat lists 15 degrees. She's 28. Our younger daughter wasn't fazed by the spill, and today she sails like a pirate. She's 26.

Summer On The North Channel

We were fortunate to spend all of July and August aboard Catnip Too up in the North Channel of Lake Huron. We had a total of 15 minutes of rain the entire summer where we were. Beautiful sailing weather, great swimming, but the lack of rain was very hard on the island vegetation and didn't help the water level of the lakes. Now the boat is put to bed and we look forward to another great season next year.
