How long can I run 15HP outboard continuously?

in good tune, it should run for years under constant use. it's corrosion, poor fuel/dirty carbs, cheap oil and sitting that kills them.

I've seem rental outboards go for a decade plus getting the crap ran out of the daily 8 months a year 10 hours day. it's all about maintenance and the hardest thing on them is sitting.

My outboard just needs occasional pumps of the fuel bulb if it runs for over a hour. Probably something I need to address maintenance wise.

Have you considered that it may imply be the fuel bulb?

Outboards are designed to be run long and hard. Aside from wearables that need regular maintenance anyways, it would be highly unlikely to have an internal rotating part fail from constant use. (unless of course the previous maintenance has been neglected and hasn't had oil changes etc.) other than that I wouldn't be concerned at all.

Do you sometimes forget to open the vent on the fuel tank.

late to this thread, but I've run my 8 hp Yamaha for up to 12 hours at a time, traveling the ICW. No problems at all. of course I run at half throttle, which gets me hull speed
