How do you route the steering cables

I am trying to put the system back together after I lost steering on the last trip and had to return under e-tiller. Apparently, one of the chain to cable connections (barrel shaped screw connectors) worked loose over time because the backing nut was not set. And then it became my time to remember how the e-tiller works, and fast.

So, now that I got it back together how do you route the steering cable/chain assbly? Do you cross them over in the pedestal just before they go across the chain sprocket on the wheel axel?

I know it is backwards right now because I can see the quadrant from the e-tiller access hole and it is deflecting opposite of how it should when I turn the wheel. But not sure where the cross over of the cables is made. I never saw it when connected correctly before.

Any help would be appreciated.

Turn the wheel right, the quad goes left. While i was into my steering, i set the wheel spoke straight down and adjusted the cables so the boat went straight- even to the rudder angle indicator on the auto pilot display.

It depends if you have a quadrant or a radial that attaches to the rudder post. If you will have idler wheels which turn the cable from the pedestal aft towards the quadrant or radial. If there is also a reversing box mounted underneath, then the cable crosses at that junction. If not, then they go right towards the shaft quadrant.

Problem solved. Cables need to be crossed over inside the pedestal as the chain goes over the sprocket.
Thanks for the help.
