PSS Shaft Seal Installation
I just installed the PSS seal system in my '85 Cat30. After I removed the shaft from the coupling, it was a piece of cake. Unfortunately, the shaft was siezed into the coupling (as well as the set bolts), and it was necessary to cut the shaft. This whole process was required in order to replace the cutlass bearing, which you might want to consider if you are going to pull the shaft anyway. Since the shaft was out, Idecided to also replace the flax shaft seal with the PSS. Installation was quite simple. The bellows section with the graphite collar slides on with pelnty of clearance. The stainless seal with the O-rings required some dish washing liquid on the shaft to facilitate insertion of the shaft. Follow the directions included with the kit and there should be no problem.
