How do you dissasemble a Maxwell #14

I have both maxwells and Barriats (sp?) on my boat... so I may get them confused, but neither were all that complex.
Take a big flat-head or chisel you don't mind dulling up and tap the notch to turn it counter-clockwise.
it threads off and that lets you lift off the drum. put a box around it or under to catch anything that may fall out... I feel like that was the only real nut-bolt like deal. Either way, they aren't all that complicated. Take photos as you take it apart so you can remember how it goes back together.

Somehow, Ross, I bet you can't reassemble it near as fast.
To address the original question, you have to remove the winch drum as described (its just a very large bolt at the bottom of the winch drum well) to access the screws that hold the winch base to the bracket that allows the winch to sit on the curved side of the mast. Its easier (and less likely to lose parts) if you remove the bracket and winch assembly from the mast by drilling out the pop rivets that secure the bracket to the mast, then find a nice place to separate the winch from the bracket. Its worth doing.
