Jim: I'm not sure what engine you have but let's assume it is a Universal or formally Kubota. To any Universal owners with older engines that are following this thread - listen up. The Universal engine normally comes with a unit called a exhaust riser. This is a devise that bolts on to the exhaust manifold. Water from the heat exchanger is injected into the riser and cools the exhaust before it enters the aqua lift. For some reason, boat manufactures elected to eliminate this item and go with a "black pipe" setup that is wrapped with insulation. Unfortunately, the black pipe start to rust the second you install it plus it generates heat. This is one of the reasons that manufactures are going back to the exhaust riser setup. This piece costs about $150.With the exhaust riser, you can grip the exhast hose and it is very cool. That is not possable with the black pipe setup. So Jim, if you have a Universal, forget the black pipe and insulation and get the exhaust riser.
