Honda 9.9 - Is there an oil filter?

I have a 1997 Honda 9.9 outboard on my 1998 H26. I do not see a canister-type oil filter on the motor. I read the owners manual cover-to-cover and it describes the oil change process but never mentions a filter. Does anyone have a similar motor that can advise?

I'd say NO. My 9.9 tohatsu doesn't of course, because it's a two stroke. But my 3.5 hp 4 stroke dinghy motor doesn't have an oil filter. I looked up the owner's manual for your model and, like you said, there is no mention of changing a crankcase oil filter.... If there was one, it would certainly be obvious like it is on just about every motor out there... .anyway..... there would be a replacement part number in the spec section of the manual.

I had a 1995 Honda 9.9 on my 1995 H23.5 for several years. No oil filter that I ever saw. Same for my current Yamaha 9.9.

I have an 8 hp Honda. It does not have a replaceable oil filter. I think it may have some sort of internal filter like a screen that doesn't get routinely changed.

Page 56-57 in the 2001 BF8D/9.9 Owners Manual left in #6 of 9 three-ring binders by the previous owner. The filter was near the oil dipstick.

Kloudie 1 had it posted, I found it the easier way, I asked the marina to service it and there it was on the receipt.

Interesting, though off topic, that in 1998 the 9.9 was a derated version of the 15, but by 2001 the 9.9 was an uprated version of the 8, according to the owner manuals.
