Back at the house, after helping a friend bring his new to him boat home from Panama City, Fl. Mamma nature was not kind to us either. Origional plan was to make a offshore run from Panama City over to the Gulfport channel. That little tropical depression sitting out in the gulf changed the plans, so it was the ditch all the way. Thursday was bad, winds right on the nose most of the time. Blowing from dead calm to 30 knots in about three seconds. Friday was worse, and crossing Choctawhachee or whatever bay, we were sailing along, winds varying from port beam to on the nose about ten knots, visibility just about zero. Then a gust hit us from the exact opposite direction, about 30 knots of wind, just bam. Never saw it coming, as visibility was about 100 yards in the rain. Almost knocked down, but not quite. Thurs. and Fri. mamma nature sure slapped us in the face. All down hill after that. Sunday morning we left Ft.Walton Beach around 8 am, made it to LuLu's around 1 for lunch, left around 3, and made it across Mobile Bay before dark. Pretty uneventful after the first two days. Some good sailing, and decent weather. Last couple of days spent sailing between a broad reach, and close hauled, but nothing right on the nose. Nice to be back home and ready to plan another trip.

Not the most fun passage but a good one. Nothing got

broke and nobody got hurt. Good to hear that all is well.

Kind Words

thanks for the kind words guys. Overall not what I would call a bad trip. I think a couple days earlier and it could have been pretty nasty. Boat is a Newport 27. Seems to be a pretty good boat. A little tender, and certainly not an offshore cruiser. Pretty darn fast light air boat. But we made the trip trouble free, with the exception of old mamma nature. Tony, at least there was no changing fuel filters in rough seas.:)

NiceN Easy

That always amazed me. Anyone else would have been sick as a dog.
So, If you didn't have to change them, why did you even bother going? You could have, at least, faked it, LOL
Glad you made it in one piece.

Newport 27

GuyH,
This is an 86 model boat. Power is a two cylinder Universal diesel, one of the marinized Kubota blocks. Really strong little engine, and the fuel consumption is almost unbelivable. Just doesn't burn any diesel at all. We did a lot of motor sailing along the way, and have 3/4 of a tank of fuel left. Only holds 18 gallons.

Seasick

Tony,
Monte did get sick Friday when it got a little snotty. As for me, I only get sick eating link sausage for breakfast when it's pretty calm.:)

definitely not my old 27...

I had hoped this was my old boat, but definitely not since mine was a 197? with an Atomic 4, she really sailed great though and was very well built for that type of boat...
