Fireworks & fine friends

The fourth IS the peak of the season for me. My son comes in for the holiday and brings friends & family. We hit a new record this year with 15 people on board for our marinas' great fireworks show! And - with a few great day-sails - it is a wonderful weekend!

Doubly cheated this year

By July 4 we normally hae at least two solid months of sailing recorded in the log. But this year, July 4 weekend was the first real sailing-friendly weekend of the season. Rain and cold in our area postponed the season until the end of June. Normally, we go down the East Rier to the end of Rooseelt Island and anchor to watch the Macy's spectacular fireworks display. We had no problem doing so last year. But this year for reasons unknown the Coat Guard would not permit boats past the end of the Island meaning we had to go back up the East Rier against the current and oer to the other side of the island where there is a bridge with 40 foot clearance. No problem for motorboats but it meant sailboats were miles from the fireworks. We'd hae done better to stay at the slip. Oh well.
