Since Bruce no longer makes smaller anchors,, Simpson/Laurence has been making them. I wouldn't call them "Knockoffs". Excellent construction I've used them on two different boats now, with zero failures in many hundreds of miles and many nights at anchor.
Now I DO carry a True Danforth Hi Test, but no way I'd ever go to sleep on a single Danforth in a tide way. I've seen them fail to reset too many times o n a tide change. Used in a Bahama moor, for sure.
I also carry a folding Northill for use where I MUST anchor in grass or weed, Again, not by itself in a tide way due to the fluke sticking up to foul the rode on a tide change
Thinking back, there was ONE instance where the Bruce would not set- Off Frazier Hogg key in the Berry's. But the cruising guide had warned us, and after the third time we watched it slide along the scoured bottom, we took a mooring.. This was off the Berry Island Club. Later, fou0nd quite good holding about a half mile away.
