Enjoy. Glad to see the kids involved. Our daughter grew up around boats and is the better for it. Rick D.

Ours Together

I'm a very lucky boy. My wife bought our O'day Daysailor in 1980 and we've never looked back. She got tired of me always talking about a boat but saying we couldn't afford a boat. So she went out, got herself a little loan, dropped me off to play, and went about her merry way, buying the whole thing. To this day, our best sails are when we are together, whether with good friends or not. We are now sailing an O'Day 272 LE. Our club in Wichita has a wonderful social program so its really easy for our significent others to be very involved whether male or female and our weekends almost always include our sailing friends, year round. Have a very merry Christmas !!! Pat Coulter

One man's passion is his wife's pain?!

Having started sailing as a small boy, I have been consumed by boats and sailing all my life. When I met my wife, she had no sailing or boating experience. We tried sailing my racing daysailer a few times, but the constant sail trimming and maneuvering was too much for her, say nothing of the constant heeling and hiking out on the gunnel. She just didn't see how that was supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. I sold my daysailer shortly after we got married because it became obvious that she didn't share my passion. It killed me also, to know that the the boat was sitting there, and I had no time to use it. All the responsibilities of being a new homeowner didn't permit me to get away much, either. I also didn't want to go sailing by myself, I wanted to spend time with my wife. I guess that longing look and muffled sigh that escaped my lips each time we passed a marina or body of water where there were sailboats present, finally wore my wife down. She was the one that booked our first bareboat charter as an anniversary present to me! Lo and behold, my wife found that she liked sailing on a larger, more comfortable boat much more than she hated my old racing daysailer. She found a 40'- 45' luxury cruising boat was just her speed! Unfortunately, our budget doesn't permit us to purchase something so extravegant. That's where our current compromise comes in. We have agreed to book 3 or 4 bareboat charters for 3 - 4 days each. We invite some close friends to join us for our trip, and make an event out of it. This is a great way to share the experience with each other and enjoy the company of some good friends. To solve my longing for speed and adventure, I'm looking for a reasonably priced used racer/daysailer in the 22' to 25' range. A much smaller investment than the luxury cruiser, but sure to wet my appetite for a little speed. Just the other day my wife forwarded an email from a resort in the Carribean that has a combination package that includes several days island hopping on board a private chartered yacht! Maybe the bug has bitten her as well!

My wife has zero interest

My wife has stability problems on boats and has no interest in my sailing activities.I sail every Fri since I am partially retired with male friends. I and my male friends take one or two one week cruises in the summer which she likes since now she has time to do activities with her sister and women friends. To compensate for the costs I bought her a 5 series BMW Steve
