End of April at NYC in Toronto. Cover and frame still on, -18 C with wind chill an evening ago here in Toronto. I an working on developing a boat wax that can be applied sub zero and with mitts on. Seems to me there is a growing market for it.

Still solid ice on Lake Champlain. Our marinas officially open May 15th. Hope to have our boat in the water by the middle of May. We are at a private mooring and are lifted in and out off our trailer. So as long as the lake level cooperates and we don't have problems with the tackle we should be able to stay on schedule.

I've been sailing all winter. Winter sailing in Vancouver is a treat because the anchorages are empty and most major marinas and still open, albeit with reduced services. We get a fair amount of rain here in the winter but most months have a stretch or two of warm sunny weather. The diesel heater takes the chill off in the morning and keeps the cabin comfy until bedtime.

Here's a quick video of my buddy and I crossing the Strait of Georgia a couple of weeks ago. The anchorage is Clam Bay at Thetis Island.

It's always too long a winter, waiting for too short a sailing season. We're leaving the boat in a slip this season, so taking it to a yard for professional bottom painting next week. I don't expect to get her into the water for another couple weeks at least as it was 18 F (- 8 C for the rest of the world) in Michigan this morning. Sometimes it makes me wonder ...

Too late for that. What last minute projects could we think of when there has not even been a minute to look at first minute projects ?:cussing: Minus 15 C this morning and still 2 feet of snow in my backyard.

Lake is still frozen solid. If we're lucky the Spring water level will le us install the docks mid-May with a launch around the end of the month.

Our club has scheduled the assisted put-in weekend for May 2-3. I am hoping to be in before then but, that has to do with the ice still on the lake. More snow tonight and the cover is still on. In theory we could launch and get to our moorings and slips as that is open water. Just couldn't go anywhere.....

OK, northern Chesapeake isn't the North, but certainly north of the OP. My boat gets splashed the week of March 30-next week! The only reason I could go then is that I didn't need bottom paint this year, so one more little project and I'm ready. The temps really haven't been good for painting and such so judging by the wide open launch calendar, folks are waiting.

What happened to that boating restriction on the upper Chesapeake until April 15?

I'm suppose to go in the water April 7 and haven't even been to the boat yet due to the snow.

Just to make those that are still frozen in after us in the south have been rubbing it in some.
With earlier spring comes some down sides.

Re: Hey, you Nanooks from the north... What is your launch d

I am jealous of you guys getting ready to put in. We are just ending our temperate sailing season here, and I am starting to plan my summer haul out. I am going to try to put it off as long as possible, but it has to be hauled by August. This will be the first time we've hauled since we bought the boat last August. After getting her into temporary sailing condition in November, and sailing her for the last 5 months, there are lots of projects that I have discovered.

I need to replace the cutlass bearing, and change depth transducer. Need to rewire the 120 V wiring on the port side of the Cabin, need to replace the worn Jib halyard. I still have 4 ports to replace and rebed, and I am also planning to sand buff and wax all exterior gel coat. I am thinking at least a week or two on the hard.

While you guys are enjoying the cool summer evenings on your northern waters, I will be sweating my but off in the 90°+ heat and humidity of a Florida summer, praying we don't get a hurricane.

Last Sunday my lovely wife and son on the ICW

We had a little boat traffic getting back in:

Once we got back in, Had to anchor in Lake Santa Barbara for a couple of hours waiting on the tide to rise enough for us to get into our dock. Nice spring evening

My boat splashed today. Plan to bend on the sails and commission on Sunday.

Pull my other leg,oho wait, can't move it it's still frozen!
If and when we go above freezing next week,I might pull the tarp and see what bigfoot winter has left.

I guess that's still in effect, but it only concerns north of the Bay Bridge, which is north of my cruising grounds. And besides, splashing the boat stops the outflow of $$ for land storage, so sooner is better :)

I still have a foot or more of hard packed snow in my yard.

I am getting anxious! Replaced the strut bearing a few weeks ago, went to YachtaPalooza at our local boat yard last week to pick up some supplies and sat in on the Great Lakes Singlehanded Society class. HOPE to get the winter cover off, stuffing box repacked and the sides cleaned and waxed this coming Saturday. Then splash the following week.

New Mack Pack is sitting ready to install, and the "to do list" of things to do once we are in the water is ready!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, they say, but I would be happier if I the water did not get hard in the Chicago area ;-)

A panorama from the clubs webcam shows open water from the crane (FAR right) to our slip (FAR left). Some boat projects but the F260 will be wet in three weeks max!
