It’s amazing the birds I’ve seen in my own neighborhood and also while driving. The most exciting bird in my yard was a family of red-cockaded woodpeckers. My friends at the wildlife department told me there was no way I had them in my yard. I told them the only way it was sometime else was if my field guide was wrong. I invited them to come over to see a VHS recording I had done. When he arrived he told me he didn’t need to see the tape. He had already found a nest hole. We ended up banding the babies. Way cool!

Thanks Kermit. I always thought the smaller was a Coopers. It must be a Sharp Shinned.
They’re way-cool birds. And they should be called sharp-taloned. (Actually all have sharp talons.)
