On the small lake I sail on we can only have trolley motors, on rare occasions I do sail on Carlyle lake in Illinois. This is were a larger motor is needed.

Can I run two battery's and only draw from one for stereo and lights and still able to run a 24 volt motor
To get 24v the batteries will have to be wired in series so wouldn't he need a big diode type of thingy between the batts Chris? So that one positive post would read 24 and the other 12?
Without the thingy, I'm thinking he'd get 24 of either post.
Edit: Man, I screwed that up! I was thinking about a parrallel not series circuit. I know the difference, really!

That's kind of what I am finding out. One way is 12 the other way is 24 volts, and I been looking on smart phone for a easy answer but keep coming up short. Smart phone! Ha
12-/24-Volt Motors
Use two 12-volt deep-cycle marine batteries and connect in the following manner:
1. Connect the RED wire from the trolling motor power cable to the positive (+) post of battery A. Use 40-amp circuit breaker on this connection.
2. Connect the BLACK wire from the trolling motor power cable to the negative (-) post of battery B.
3. Connect the WHITE wire from the trolling motor power cable to the positive post of battery B. This will be your 12-volt lead. Include a 40-amp breaker on this connection.
4. Connect a jumper from the negative (-) post of battery A to the positive (+) post of battery B.

Looking to purchase a solar panel for my N17 just to keep batterys charging. What wattage should I be looking at?
I am running my depth finder tonight, I really need some advice!!! It's on my N17 and it's about the stern if I can drill through the top part to run my wires? If u can call me I would so much appreciate!! I can pm my cell number thank you in advance!!
Bill, you can drill through the stern no problem. Bass boats, (shudder), do it all the time with sensors, etc. Make sure it's above the water line a tad, and seal up the wire good, (I don't get into the sealant debates), and maybe put a small clam shell vent over it. It looks like you sail on a lake, so following seas shouldn't be a problem. But if you seal it, it won't matter.

Bill, what don't work about it? Boom height? Main sheet won't go around it? From the picture, it LOOKS alright..
Are the fittings removable? What about cutting the forward bow too and mounting it higher on the main (rear) bow?
