Hey Bill PM me the size of your sails. I might have something you can learn to sew sails on. I'll have to look and see what it is. It may be an old Mac 25 main. I know there's at least 3' of sewing to do on it. I stopped pulling it out of the bag when I found the rip. (along the luff edge 2 1/2" form the bolt rope.)
Watch Craigslist and the like for sails close to your size. You will be surprised what comes up cheap. I found a 26D/S main and 150 genoa for $150. The guy even mailed them to me for that price! The guy sold the boat the year before and found the sails packed away someplace.
Bill, I have a leftover hank-on 110 that's taking up space from when I converted to roller furling. It's for a Catalina 25 tall rig but if you want to try cutting it down it might work. Figure ill donate to the cause and its yours if you can figure out how to get it from Kansas City to you without disrupting the boat budget too much.

You should see how much difference a power washer makes! I power washed the entire inside of my boat. Needs it again.
Bill. I've got some sad news about that sail I mentioned. I got it out of the bag today. It's not torn ware I thought it was and its worse than I thought. It is torn about 18" to a foot below the reef. So it may fit. BUT it's in bad shape. I can tear it easily by hand and it has about 4-5 patches sewn in to it. I think it's done. But if you want to cover the postage I can send it. I think your best bet is find something local that has some life left in it.
Here is a picture of it in my back yard. If you like I can send more detailed photos of the repairs that have been done. (I was originally thinking of using it to make a sail for a PDRacer I am going to build this winter but I really don't think it's good enough for that.)
Help me out here. Today I am starting on the 12 volt system, if I get a 24 volt 50pd trolley motor should I run 8 or 10 gauge to motor? And should I put one battery on one side and the other on the other side? For balance.
Depends on the amp draw of the motor. But when in doubt, always go bigger. You can not go wrong with too big of a wire, but too small and you'll let the smoke out of it. One would want to avoid letting out the smoke, as it's expensive, and the smoke is hard to put back in.
Are you going to wire 2 - 12 volt batteries in series to the 24v motor? As I see it the resistance of the motor winding is fixed. I am not an EE, but it seems that, based on Ohm's Law, a single 12 volt battery will generate half the current of a 24 volt battery for the given resistance. Will that current be sufficient to move the boat?
