Welcome to SBO you've already made a great start to learning how to sail and the people on this site have ready information. Glad you found somebody that can give you lessons in the winter, sometimes that's not so easy this time of year. On the other hand it looks like you may be a weekend sailor so you might try what I did. The PO( previous owner) left his boat to his family so I could not ask him how to sail the boat however I did find a couple friendly sailors at the dock where I slipped my boat and asked them. Fortunately I was dangerous but knew it and came across a retired school teacher there. I said nice boat how does it work and began getting answers that I didn't know I didn't know to ask. If you know the PO you might go back and ask them to show how the boat works and maybe special features that you wouldn't find out easily on your own.

Thanks!

The previous owner just bought her and left her in the Marina for a year and never had the chance to take her out of the water :( I classify myself as anyday sailor as long as its sunny (even in winter) :) I find it fun and relaxing even though I dont know how to do it yet. Im pretty sure it will much more enjoyable once I learn the ropes

Perhaps you have the basics under your belt and you know how to sail. If so, then give us more info with specifics so that maybe we can suggest some ideas to make your boat go faster.

The problem is, you haven't had your lesson yet. Or, you haven't studied the basics on your own.

Will the mussels on the rudder have a huge effect on steering etc?
Until you've cleaned the mussels off your rudder, centerboard/keel, the whole bottom of your boat, no learning by sailing her can happen. Everything you do, right or wrong, will be affected by the drag on your hull.

Pictures please.
