Just had the mast restepped, and we cannot figure out how to run the lines under the panel and to the cockpit. We removed all of the visible screws, even took the solar panel off.... can anyone offer ideas/suggestions? The manual gives directions as if there were no panel covering the lines. There may be a way to run them without removing the panel, but then I am unsure how to get them through the correct blocks....

You have to start in the fall.

The way to do it is to run messenger lines -- strings -- through the organizers. You attach them to the halyards, reef lines, etc. as you remove them when you unrig. When you re-rig in the spring, you just tie the messengers to the rope and pull it back into place. Of course you can't do that now. You have a couple of options, not counting locating a trained hamster. You can remove that top panel by simply removing the screws that hold it on the deck. It's not something you want to do all the time since the screw holes get worn out, but once isn't going to hurt. If you removed the screws and can't get it off, they probably caulked it. You can still pull it off, but you'll have to get the caulk to release. You can get a long flexible rod, like electricians use to run wires through existing walls. Visit your neighborhood home depot. Lesson learned for next year. After a while, you'll figure out there is no point in having your mast unstepped, and you can avoid the whole mess. Good luck! Paul sv Escape Artist h336

thanks

thanks.. unfortunately it was unstepped because we were shipping it up from SC, and the boatyard we payed to take the rigging down pulled these out:( Many lessons learned through this process, unfortunately. Thanks for the ideas!

running lines under panel to cockpit

Use a section of 3/16 inch shroud protector and tape the line to the end of it. You can thread the line right through the organizers.

It's easy.

When you get to Home Depot, go to the electrical section and ask for a 'snake'. They have all kinds. Some are even long enough for your mast. How do you think those ropes were installed in the mast? The fun part will be planning the job so you don't have to do it more than once because you skipped something like a block. But that's OK, because the 'snake' makes it easy and gives you SO MUCH POWER. :)
