Those posters that never check back-

I always figured their wives caught on they were buying a boat- then one day as the guy sits down to check our answers-BAM!!! Rolling pin to the back of the head. I once had to dodge a flying candle stick across the dinner table just for reading out loud an ad for a Jag xke.

Re: Those posters that never check back-

I hear you Lance, I owned my boat for 6 months before the wife was told. I didn't dare bring the boat home in the condition in which I bought it. When I did bring home the shinny boat she was sceptically pleased.

I guess I'm lucky, we went down to just check out a boat and she was the one reaching for the cheque book for the deposit before I even said "what do you think"

That would not have been good for me. When I bought my boat it was advertised for $4k the owner dropped the price to $3K almost immediately not knowing that he had me at 4K. I was really committed at 3k. I was walking around looking at the boat trying to think where I could store it playing out different options in my mind. He then dropped it to 2K. Feeling sorry for the guy I told him I would take it but I needed a place to keep it. He offered to keep it at his place with essentially 6 months of free storage. I took it home to work on it after 6 months and showed it to the wife then. To her delight I was able to store it at the PO's house for another 6 months. At that point I gave him $20/mo I could tell he needed the money.
I have used the silent treatment before to passively dicker but in this case I was just pondering on where to keep it.
Immediately whipping out the check book would have been disadvantageous.

BTW Dave, I really love my boat but if I could afford it I would go with a water ballast especially for use on a lake, it would be nice to occasionally beach the boat.

Re: and you wonder why people are hard on the newbies

Dave - if you can find a Ranger 23 that surveys well and has good sails you should do fine. You could find one for under $5,000. Sails well in light air and can take a breeze. You will learn to sail can become as good a sailor as you need to be with this boat.

this is a different topic, can someone tell me why there are no keel bolts that you can see on the floor of a Ericson 23 MK2 model?
