The varnish on the wood panel at the fwd end of the vberth lifted during winter storage (2004, 373, Douka wood). I searched the forum and THANKS Gunni for the wood repair document. However, can anyone provide info as to the cause of this failure? I don't want to have this happen again or in another area.

Thanks,

Never worked with Douka wood but looks like the surface wasn't properly prepped before varnish was applied.

Yikes! I have heard that there was a problem with the catalized lacquer that caused it to fail. I have seen photos of bubbling; however, yours seem to be exhibiting total failure. Hopefully, it will be easier to remove.
I would sand it thoroughly with 150 & 220 grit paper and thoroughly vacuum and wipe down with a tack cloth, then wipe down with denatured alcohol ( ventilate thoroughly), then follow the Beneteau refinishing procedure that Gunni posted.
My 06 Ben 343 has not shown any tendency for the finish thus far.

Jim & BigEasy,
Thanks for he replys, but the boat is over 11 years old! From what I read this should have happened along time ago if it was an application or lacquer problem.
I'm concerned that something recently caused this, which needs to be remedied. BUT what?

Is this de-lamination problem just in that location? If so, I would suspect excessive moisture that got into the wood.

Delam only on this one piece at fwd bulkhead of vberth. Rest of laminate like new. I will look closely again for any signs of moisture.
No heater.

Woodster,
Yes and the panel in the white trim in the 1st pic opens to the windless motor. But finish on that panel is not lifting.
Did confirm that the anchor locker drain is open.

Also, will confirm tomorrow but th aft wall of the locker is fglass and don't think there are any protrusions to the wood.

My first answer is no from when I looked at the visible surface. Will remove the lifted varnish when I get back to boat tomorrow to confirm
