Oday 22 Lexington, KY
Hello everyone. New to the forum. Fairly new sailboat owner. Bought my 76 Oday 22 last year. Been working on restoring it. Plan to learn to sail on it while I save for retirement. Hope to share pictures and help others on projects where I can and get help myself.

Welcome too! That should make a fine trainer. If you want to learn to sail I'd suggest that you don't need to restore the boat before sailing it. Restoration projects are fine and there are those that prefer to restore a boat then use it. Nothing wrong with that. But if you want to sail, take it to the local waterway. launch and rig it, and go for a sail. You'll learn what you like and don't like about the boat and that will impact your restoration.

I don't know if you will be trailering / cruising your O'Day22, but I would recommend a new winch stand that has some sort of a bumper to stop the forward motion of the boat. Check out West Marine for trailer parts, or Cargo Trailers, if there's one near you. I hope you are not intending on painting the topsides. A little polishing compound and a polisher will make that beauty shine. Summer is time to sail and the off season is time to repair and upgrade. Get sailing. Get a book on seamanship, the points of sail, and sailing terminology. We'll know what your telling us about your projects. It's a great little boat and will provide much sailing fun. I have a 222 and I enjoy sailing it in many different bodies of water. Good sailing!

If it were my boat I would order a new bow stop and winch stand, check the bulkheads for rotten wood around the chainplates and go sail
