1979 Hunter Cherubini 30 Clemmons
Welcome aboard and congrats on your new project boat!. Like others said, there are tons of helpful people here. I don't know what I would have done without the help I received here while renovating my 79 H30. I still ask questions almost daily :) I am maybe 3 months away from splash date after almost 3 years. It has been very rewarding but have to admit, I will never do it again!. If I was 20 years younger and/or 8 inches shorter................maybe. ;)

We were finally able to get the boat. The trailer pulled very well and we had no issues even over rough country roads. First on the agenda is replacing the fixed portlights. I have the plexiglass cut. I plan on following this procedure Replacing Fixed Portlights - Sail Magazine. I have read several different places that this is a good way to do this job.

Welcome Chris: I bought my H34 almost 2 years ago and was really glad to find this site. As noted there is a lot of info here. Regarding your question on compression post symptoms, look for a bulge in the beam just above the post, mine is on the aft side with small hairline cracks.

There are a couple of posts in the Owner Modifications section of this site documenting replacement of the fixed portlights. There are also other threads if you search the site. If you have an early model with the aluminum frame they are pretty easy to rebuild, I did mine last fall and no more leaks. http://forums.sailboatowners.com/index.php?threads/rebuilding-h34-fixed-portlights.174016/

Good luck with the project, IMHO the H34 is a lot of boat for the money and a lot of fun to sail.

Thanks Charlie, I have the old frames but they are plastic, not broken but faded and ugly. I really like the way your portlights turned out. I think the grey look great.
